The Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, DC sings to inspire equality and inclusion with musical performances and education promoting justice and dignity for all. We will celebrate the diverse tapestry of our great nation instead of shredding that tapestry. We will uplift and inspire queer youth rather than allowing them to be the victims of bullying. We will bring people together through the power of performance instead of isolating groups of people with fear. And as we recall the success of our Equality Tour, and plan our next one, we will take our message and music beyond the beltway to comfort, encourage, and inspire a broader activist audience.

Portland Institute for Contemporary Art acknowledges and advances new developments in contemporary art while fostering the creative explorations of artists and audiences. Kristy Edmunds, a respected young artist and curator, founded PICA in 1995 in response to a widening gap in Portland between the established traditional institutions and emerging alternative spaces. PICA's programming supports the experiments of the most vital and provocative artists of our time. Our vision is international, intergenerational, interdisciplinary, and decidedly forward thinking (even when those explorations look back in history). PICA is unique among institutions for working right alongside artists at the increasingly blurry boundaries between forms and at the edge of new ideas.

The Telfair Museum of Art traces its history from 1886 when the Telfair family home opened to the public as an art museum and school. The Museum now boasts three diverse sites -- the original building, the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences, a National Historic Landmark building; the Owens-Thomas House, also a National Historic Landmark; and the Jepson Center for the Arts, a contemporary building which houses 20th- and 21st-century art. Over the years the Telfair has become an invaluable confluence of arts, culture and history that reaches out to its audience through a diverse schedule of exhibitions and programs.

The American Classical Orchestra (ACO) recreates the sound world of the master composers. The ACO is devoted to preserving and performing the repertoire of 17th, 18th and 19th century composers. By playing the music on original instruments and using historic performance technique, we attempt to recreate the sounds an audience would have experienced when the music was written and first performed. We pass along skills and appreciation for this practice to future generations through concert performances and educational programs.

The Library Foundation enhances Multnomah County Library's innovation and reach, helping the library address emerging community needs through private support. Since 1995, gifts to the foundation have helped the library reach tens of thousands of children at risk of low literacy, breathe new life into aging buildings and buy books that capture hearts and minds. Last year's accomplishments show just how much a small nonprofit can accomplish in partnership with a strong public library. Supporters helped the library strengthen/expand 11 programs, reach more than 185,000 people and made more than 62,000 books and materials available to children and adults. The foundation and the library work together, in a strong partnership, to determine where private funds can have the greatest impact, particularly for children and families at risk.
